Hello there!

I enjoy painting with oils on Bristol board because of the absorbency of the surface. I’m aware this is not best practice though because of the damage oil will do to the paper. However, oil painting paper I have found lacks the absorbency I like from the Bristol board. What is the most absorbent paper that would be suitable to use with oils? Is there a specific oil painting paper you would recommend or perhaps a print making paper that would be suitable for oils.

If you haven't tried our new Stonehenge Oil paper, we'd recommend that for oil. However, as it is specifically designed to be used with oil paints it may not have the level of absorbency you desire.

That being said, if you are seeking a paper with absorbent qualities, it may be worth experimenting with our Stonehenge Aqua papers. While this paper is typically designed for water-based media, its absorbency may provide a unique surface for oil painting.
