Ask an Expert - Forum > Writing paper for journal

Hi - Can you help me find a high quality paper that will be used for a paper planner. I plan to print on it (digital or laser printer). Ideally looking for something smooth that can be used double sided and around 80 gsm. I currently really enjoy Japanese paper that you find in Japanese notebooks. Thanks in advance!

Many Japanese papers are known for their smooth texture, which is ideal for both writing and printing. And the 80gsm-130gsm weight is the sweet spot for planner pages, balancing durability and thickness - It's thick enough to prevent ink from showing through when printing or writing on both sides but not so thick that it makes the planner bulky. However, many Japanese papers may be too thin to run through a laser printer so we would suggest a 100% cotton book paper such as Somerset and Arches Text or a medium weight white/off-white premium paper, such as Colorplan and Lessebo.

Please find links to those papers below. We also recommend our Book Papers Collection sampler that contains all these papers (and more). This allows you to test them with your specific printer and inks to ensure compatibility and satisfaction with the print quality and feel. A link to that sampler will be at the very bottom.
