Ask an Expert - Forum > Two Sided Sheet, Stonehenge Aqua Hotpress

Some art paper is different on opposite side. Are both sides of the Stonehenge Aqua Hotpress the same to work on? As in the texture?

Stonehenge Aqua Hotpress technically has two different surfaces; however, when you look, the difference is minute. With a close inspection you will see that one side is smoother than the other. You are able to work on either side of the sheet as both sides have the same amount of sizing needed for water media.

To expand on two sided sheets, the reason why some papers have two different surfaces is that the machine used to produce the paper has a wire or in some cases two wires which the paper runs across. A double wire machine has the same surface on both sides of the sheet where as the single wire machine will have a smoother side and a more textured side.
